In astronomy, is the lynx constellation
citation accompanying the image: Poor stars and difficult to detect "front of the head and under the front legs" of The Big Dipper asterism that was invented by Johannes Hewell, circa 1660, to fill a void between the existing constellations. He wrote about him: "there is that small and stars must have eagle eyes to distinguish them [...] the sky is too empty for there to be left empty without it fill it. "
Who is Johannes Hevelius Hewell or?
This scholar was born in Gdansk, January 28, 1611. He died January 28, 1687. He has lived 76 years: this is very old at the time.
Johannes Hevelius, Johann or Johannes Hewelke Hewel (German) or Jan Heweliusza (in Polish) is an astronomer who was called the founder of lunar topography .
Hevelius has made observations of sunspots from 1642 to 1645. He devoted four years to map the lunar surface.
Aided by his wife, he used and manufactured instruments used to measure the position of the stars. He discovered libration in longitude of the Moon and published his results in 1647 in Selenographia that make him the founder of lunar topography.
He discovered four comets in 1652, 1661, 1672 and 1677 (that of 1661 is probably the same as the comet 153P/Ikeya-Zhang) and suggested the revolution of such bodies in parabolic trajectories around the sun.
The libration? The face of the Moon has an apparent swinging around a mean position in longitude: the libration in longitude.
Similarly, the tilt of its axis of rotation perm and see an additional field in latitude, alternately in North and South poles: the libration in latitude.
